Brownfield Remediation: BC’s Largest Shipyard

For this large-scale Brownfield development project, our environmental consulting firm was commissioned for the extensive, multi-year environmental cleanup phase. This involved providing permanent environmental remediation services covering BC’s largest shipyard, with the added challenge of working around several historical buildings.

Our solution included remediation up to numerical standards, including removal of soil contamination and risk assessment to determine which contaminants could remain in place without exceeding acceptable risk levels on dry land and the adjacent water lot of Burrard Inlet.

We successfully completed the project while working around numerous complications, including stringent municipal and provincial requirements, ongoing regulatory negotiation with the Ministry, the need to contain costs and the incomplete nature of the investigative reports provided to us. Despite all this, we were able to help our client obtain eight Certificates of Compliance.
