Investigation & Remediation: Historical Service Station

Previous investigations of the Site by other consultants had identified a large hydrocarbon contaminant plume. The contamination was sourced from the Site and had also impacted several other properties in the area. The former service station had been decommissioned, however, the majority of contamination remained. The Site was sold with a condition to remediate and obtain a Certificate of Compliance (“COC”) from the Ministry of Environment. Working for the new Site owner, NEXT completed a thorough review of previous investigations and then subsequently did further work to fill in data gaps and complete delineation. After fully characterizing the Site, NEXT put together a remediation plan to accommodate a future development scenario with two levels of underground parking, while also keeping excavation and soil disposal costs down.

With the necessary permits and Ministry Release in place, the contaminated soil was then excavated with the remaining deeper contamination being addressed via risk assessment. After remediation has been completed, NEXT successfully received the COC for our client which helped them to fulfill the legal requirements of the sale.
